Lulu Lemon & TARGETRAINING wraps up for March

TARGETRAINING was the club of the month for March at Lulu Lemon in Westport. We all had a great time and had an opportunity to meet some cool new people. Our crack staff, Brett, Liz, Sally and Fred covered all the bases with yoga, general fitness, functional training and kickboxing. The month wrapped up this Saturday with Fred's kickboxing class and I snapped off a few pics to enjoy.

Thanks again to Lauren, Kate, Melissa and the rest of the gang at Lulu!

Bethel Race #3 recap

In typical early spring weather for Connecticut, cyclists for the 3rd race of the Bethel Crit. series were greeted to some lively winds. Windy conditions can cause havoc on a bike race, just ask Alberto Contador who failed to claim the GC overall in the Paris Nice stage race as he lost valuable time when he missed a critical split in the race due to strong wind conditions.
The Bethel Crit. series may not be Paris Nice, but it sure gets everyone motivated on cold and windy Sunday mornings in March.

TARGETRAINING fielded several athletes in all the races, but the most notable one was Bart McDonough who completely totaled his beautiful Cervelo R3 SL in the finishing sprint in front of a host of TT clients that had ridden up to the race from TARGETRAINING led by Max Veiga. I will spare you pictures of his bike, suffice to say that Bart is OK but services for the bike will be held this Sunday as its ashes will be spread along the race course. We will be sure to send the bill for Bart's new bike to the unamed racer that took him out in the sprint.

Congratulations go out to Sam Goater who took out his first USA Cycling license and jumped into the CAT 5 field and held his own with Brad Hardy and Bill Schwartz. The future looks bright for those three.

The day was culminated with the P/1/2/3 race that saw TARGETRAINING riders Badger, Baldwin, Spear, and myself take on a windswept course and nervous field. Baldwin stirred up the pot in the first half of the race by applying some much needed heat to the pace of the race. With the conditions of the race ripe for a break, I took advantage of a tiring field and initiated the move that set up the winning break just after the halfway point. Coming into the finish, I was unable to shake my 8 breakaway companions and finished 4th in a complicated sprint.
Yet the day was not lost as I captured the GC lead and am set to defend the jersey in the coming weeks.

Northeast Triathlon Expo 2009

I got the chance to attend the 2nd annual Multisport World Conference and Expo in Boston as part of the USA Triathlon Trade Team. It was great to meet some of the USAT Staff including CEO Skip Gilbert, and triathlon legend Scott Tinley. I took some photos of TARGETRAINING industry partners on display at the event. Below are booths from Avia, Sram/Zipp, Polar, Retul, Newton, CWX, and CycleOps. Enjoy. -dom

TARGETRAINING Elite Riders take 1st win of the year

In what was another perfect weekend weather wise, TARGETRAINING coaches (Matt and Eneas) and elite masters team members (Ed Angelli, Max Lippolis, Steven Badger and Mike Allair) toed the line for the 2nd Bethel Spring series race this past Sunday.

In a stacked field of local strong men, TARGETRAINING’s experienced group of elite riders kept the pace fast and active in the 30+ mile crit. As the laps counted down and attacks and counter attacks began to take their toll on the field, Eneas made one last decisive move taking one other break away companion with him with about 10 laps to go. The duo established a quick but small gap on the hard chasing field. With the rest of the TARGETRAINING team keeping tabs on the field, Eneas kept enough of his small advantage to open his account for the season and finishing in 1st place with the charging field hot on his heels. (Thanks for the help TT Boys!)

It was a great end to a full day of TARGETRAINING racing as new to racing cyclist such as Brad Hardy and Frank Navone finished top 20 in their respective fields.

Time to recharge the batteries, and look towards Bethel race #3 this coming Sunday.

SCOTT bikes on review with PEZ

For the 2009 race calender, Team Columbia / Highroad are saddling up the SCOTT Addict and Plasma bikes. Riders Mark Cavendish, George Hincapie and Tony Martin (pictured) will be challenging the rest of the peloton on these fantastic machines.

SCOTT has been known for making some of the lightest bikes in the world. But weight means nothing if you can't put the pedal to the metal. That's where endless hours of real world testing come into play. Fast AND light is the golden rule for Team Columbia.

Pezcyclingnews.com has caught up with the team to get their impressions...here is the article.
