Article in Westport News December 2006: Opening of TARGETRAINING Tri&Cycle.
TARGETRAINING, a world class personal and endurance training facility in Fairfield county for cyclists, runners, swimmers, triathletes and people seeking superior everyday fitness, is celebrating both its First Anniversary and the Grand Opening of its endurance equipment and clothing store Tri&Cycle. TARGETRAINING is perhaps the premier personal training and endurance facility in the area, attracting a wide array of clients, from teenagers through to aspiring grandparents, all who wish to be intelligently fit.
Together with a group of competitive endurance athletes, TARGETRAINING was founded by former management consultant and 10 year Westport resident Rick Spear. TARGETRAINING is his brainchild. He saw a tremendous demand in the area for a personal training facility that emphasized endurance sports. Recognizing the impact that endurance training has on long term health, he embarked on creating one in 2005. His dream came true when it opened in December of that year. It gained a strong following with the growing number of healthy-lifestyle driven people in the area. A competitive cyclist himself, Spear sponsored a professional cycling team that competed in the 2006 Ford Tour de Georgia. This year, adding to the momentum of endurance activity for women, TARGETRAINING is sponsoring a women’s professional cycling team.
The cycling facility features a virtual reality system whereby cyclists can visualize themselves climbing the French Alps in the Tour de France, competing against themselves in individual training sessions or with others in group classes. The fitness facility upstairs features the cutting edge Kinesis, a 360-degree, three dimensional functional strength machine, as well as well as a range of equipment necessary for a well-rounded workout. TARGETRAINING’s coaches and trainers are of the highest caliber, providing a high level of privacy and individualized attention. All the trainers compete in endurance events to ensure they act as role models for their clients.
The store, Tri & Cycle, is TARGETRAINING’s latest business expansion, providing clients and the community with running shoes, wetsuits, road and triathlon bicycles, endurance and active wear, high-end orthotics and biomechanical analysis. Advice-driven, Tri & Cycle spends the necessary time to ensure that clients get the gear they need to get the most enjoyment out of their chosen activity, whether it is a casual Sunday bicycle ride to Compo or through the reservoirs in Easton, an open water swim in the Sound, or a run up North Avenue.
