July 1st. Fitchburg, Massachussets.
TARGETRAINING's Matt Baldwin won the Cat 2 sprinter's
jersey, with a significant assist from the
team (special credit to Assaf, Adam and Justin). Lee
and Allistair were the top GC men, with 12th and 18th
respectively. In the time trial, Lee Rosenthal earned 8th. In
the circuit race, Matt Baldwin finished 11th on the stage and
was in 4th in the points race, while Lee and Justin maintained
their GC positions (8th and 24th). In the road race, Matt
Baldwin grabbed the sprinter's jersey. He and Adam St.
Germaine were in the early break. Alistair Radcliffe grabbed
8th for the day, and moved up to 18th overall. Lee Rosenthal
dropped 4 spots to 12th in GC. In the criterium, the team was
able to defend and secure Matt's points jersey. Excellent
work guys.
June 16th weekend. The U-25/Elite
Team had another good weekend, with Alistair
Radcliffe getting 7th against a deep field and in a tough course
at Housatonic Hills. If only we can get him to ride the
front, the young man might get top 3. Justin Lindine
pulled out 9th, and Eneas, after being in perhaps one too many
moves, placed 11th. Kudos to Lee Rosenthal and Matt Baldwin, who
represented TARGETRAINING well in a number of moves.
June 8th weekend. The U-25/Elite
Team had a good weekend, with Justin Lindine
capturing 9th in the Cambridge NY Balloon Festival Road Race.
Lee Rosenthal and Allistair Radcliffe also finished the race,
which was a relatively difficult course. Eneas Freyre won the
Connecticut Gold Medal in the P123 category in the Nutmeg Games
Criterium Championship (he got 4th in the race). Tony Taylor,
one of the leaders of the Masters team, got 9th in the same
race.
Redding/Lancaster Classics (June 7th
and June 3rd). Eneas Freyre got 2nd behind
Jamie Carney in Lancaster in a two man break. In Redding,
Assaf Yogev earned 17th and Justin Lindine 18th in a fairly fast
and difficult criterium.
Somerville, May 30th.
The U-25 team earned 7th place with Adam St. Germaine
delivering the goods on the final sprint in the Category 2 race.
The TARGETRAINING U-25/Elite Development Team will race the Tour of Somerville on May 28th as a part of its final preparation for the upcoming Commerce Bank PCT Amateur events in Lancaster and Reading, Pennsylvania in June. The riders on the team look forward to honing their form for these important races and continuing to race well this summer at events such as the Fitchburg Longsjo Classic, Elite Nationals, and possibly the International Tour de ‘Toona.
With riders from 4 states and 2 countries the squad is not only multi-cultural, but has also displayed its many talents at races already such as the Tour de Gila, Battenkill-Roubaix, Johnny Cake Lane Road Race, and the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Athletic conference.
Racing in Sommerville and the rest of the season will be Eneas Freyre, Matt Baldwin, Alister Ratcliff, Adam St Germain, Justin Lindine, Jordan Gazit, Assaf Yogev and Lee Rosenthal. They will ride custom-made Aegis bicycles painted TARGETRAINING’s signature green and blue; Crank Brothers pedals; Champion Systems clothing; and Rudy Project glasses and helmets. They are managed by New England masters racer Kyle Wolfe, who states that “the team conveys the TARGETRAINING brand message that one can, with the right discipline and resources, achieve great success in their athletic and personal lives. All of the racers are busy young men who effectively juggle the responsibilities of school, family, training, and friends.”
TARGETRAINING U25
Racers duke it out in the competitive Rocky Mountain Collegiate
Cycling Conference
Three TARGETRAINING U25 racers began
their RMCCC racing in the first weekend of March in
Albuquerque. The weekend had a TT and a Criterium hosted by
the University of New Mexico. After chasing down a 2-man
break the pack split. Toward the end, Jordan was off the
front in a 7 man group and finished 4th in the
sprint. In the USCF-sanctioned Pro1,2,3 crit that afternoon
Jordan bridged to an 8-man break with 1 lap to go and
managed an impressive 5th in the sprint.
The next weekend the racers competed in
a crit around the Invesco Field (Broncos Stadium) in Denver,
hosted by Denver University. Competitive racing and multiple
attacks saw Jordan secure 7th in the sprint with
Assaf in 9th.
The third weekend marked the first road
race of the year in Boulder, hosted by the University of
Colorado. Assaf got in a 7-man break after 2 out of the 6
hilly 7.2 mile laps. He managed an impressive 4th
in the sprint while Jordan won the pack sprint for11th.
In the Crit the day before Jordan demonstrated his
domestique abilities and led out his teammate Dicky
Wetherald to the first Fort Lewis College win of the season.
The next weekend in Fort Collins was
raced in heavy rain and 40 degree temperatures. Alister did
well in that survival race and got 4th in the
road race.
Jordan’s first win came a week later in
Golden, CO in a 1 hour circuit race hosted by Colorado
School of Minds. The 3 km circuit had a tough, steep climb
(the racers climbed almost 2000 feet in the whole race) and
a technical descent. On the last lap, after a Fort Lewis
teammate was pulled back by the 10-man lead group, Alister
and Jordan attacked and held it off to the finish. Jordan
outsprinted Alisterin the closing meters, making a 1,2
podium for the TARGETRAINING genetlemen. In addition,
Alister also got a top ten in the hill climb time trial the
day before.
On April 7th, the University
of Utah held a 50 mile "hell of the north" road race in Salt
Lake City. The course was a 5 mile loop, of which 1.5 miles
were on a dirt/gravel road. Assaf attacked on the first lap
and split the pack. At the end of the dirt section Assaf and
Jordan found themselves in a 5-man break. Assaf and another
rider flatted on the second lap, reducing break was to 3
riders. Jordan attacked the break on the dirt with less than
1 lap to go and held it off to the finish for his second win
of the season. Adding to his palmares, the next day Jordan
got 3rd in a mass start 7 km hill climb up Big
Mountain in the outskirts of Salt Lake City while Assaf was
part of the winning Fort Lewis College team in the 14 mile
TTT.
Updated
RMCCC rankings are not yet published, but we believe after
the past two weekends Jordan will be leading them (he was 4th
before these weekends, and Assaf 5th).
Congratulations, gentlemen.
