TARGETRAINING, a premiere Connecticut personal and endurance coaching company, continues its support of the pro peloton with the introduction of the 2007 TARGETRAINING Women’s Professional Cycling Team. It hopes to add to the momentum of women’s racing in the United States. TARGETRAINING’s Chief Executive, Rick Spear, believes that "women endurance athletes are a key aspect of the future of the sport and that we should help in this effort."
The team gathers a dynamic squad of women: Rebecca Much, multiple US Champion and U23 World Time Trial Silver Medalist; Megan Elliot, former US Road Race Champion and Saturn team member; Anna Milkowski, multi-year pro on Rona and Lipton; Leigh Valletti, one of America's best crit riders; Kathleen Billington, Connecticut state champion; Robin Farina, a Tennessee talent; Andrea Myers, a young Illinois speedster; Hiroko Shimada, Yale researcher and Japanese National Team member; Mandy Lozano, fresh off a top-10 at Cyclo-cross Nationals; and Nina Santiago, New Jersey State champion and #1-ranked Junior American Stage Racer. Former professional Greg Wolf will direct the team.
The ladies will race on handcrafted, team color-painted Victory bicycles from Aegis. Greg Brown, Director of Marketing for the Maine-based bicycle maker, states that "Aegis Bicycles is the pioneer in carbon fiber bicycle construction, with over 20 years experience. Built Slow to go Fast, the people at Aegis believe that Made in the USA still matters."
The ladies of TARGETRAINING will use Champion System clothing, DMT shoes, Mavic wheels, Hutchison tires, PowerTap powermeters, Cyclops trainers, Bell helmets, Rudy Project glasses, Defeet Socks and apparel, Cytomax and NutraFig (Cheetah bar), Sportsbalm Muscle care, and Thule car racks.
The team’s first target race will be the UCI 2.1 Vuelta El Salvador starting March 14th-20th. Stay tuned for more news as the ladies take the professional peloton by storm!
